Oriental Cabinets

Oriental cabinets and cupboards have a long and fascinating history. Dating back centuries and reaching it's zenith in terms of craftsmanship in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the Chinese cabinet has been a popular item of furniture and has been used in a variety of ways throughout the ages.

Early oriental cabinets

The earliest Chinese cabinets were simple pieces of furniture, with shelves and drawers. These pieces were often made from hardwoods such as walnut, and elm, and finished with lacquer or paint. In addition, cabinets and cupboards were often decorated with intricate carvings, inlays, and painted designs.

During the Ming Dynasty, it became fashionable for oriental furniture such as cabinets, cupboards and chests to have doors and drawers that opened with intricate locks and keys. By the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), Chinese cabinets had become a symbol of wealth and status. These pieces of furniture were often elaborately decorated with intricate carvings, painted designs, and mother of pearl inlays. Many cabinets and cupboards were also ornately decorated with gold and silver, and often featured a variety of Chinese symbols and motifs.

Oriental cabinets have been used in a variety of different ways throughout the centuries. They were often used to store valuable items such as jewellery, coins, and other items. During the Ming Dynasty, it was also common for cabinets to be used to store books and scrolls. During the Qing Dynasty, cabinets were often used to house fine porcelain and other decorative items.

Today, oriental cabinets and cupboards are popular items of furniture, used to store items such as books, photographs, and other collectibles. In addition, Chinese cabinets and cupboards are often used as decorative pieces, with intricate carvings, painted designs, and mother of pearl inlays. They are a popular item in both traditional and modern settings, and can be found in a variety of styles and sizes.

The creation of Chinese apothecary cabinets involves intricate craftsmanship and traditional techniques that have been passed down through generations. From the selection of materials to the final finishes, each step in the process contributes to the exceptional beauty and quality of these remarkable furniture pieces.
