Pair of Grey Lacquer Side Tables
Shandong, circa 1920
These simple side tables are in an unsual style for Chinese furniture, with chunky frames and stretchers at the base but little in the way of decoration. The seat panels sit flush within thick frames. Possible meant originally for seating, they are ideal today as side tables next to a bed or sofa or perhaps as stands for displaying vases of flowers. The original finish has been updated with a new, distressed grey green lacquer, with traces of red and blue underneath. Sold as a pair, the price shown is for the two tables.
