Carved Ming Screen, Warm Elm
The lattice design in the upper panels of this beautiful warm elm screen, made up of individual pieces of wood fitted together with mortis and tenon joints, dates back to Ming dynasty China. The bottom panels are in rattan fitted over wood. The screen panels are based on similar original ones that would form the interior windows or doors of a Chinese house. Fitted together with brass hinges, they make a wonderful room divider in a modern home.Note that each screen is made by hand and so actual designs can vary slightly.
