Ming Bookshelf, Warm Elm
Bookshelves like our warm elm version were used by the Chinese scholarly classes, but unlike in the west, they preferred to stack books on the shelves rather than have them stood upright. Shelves therefore tended to be deeper than their western equivalent. This reproduction version is therefore a little narrower than the originals but is otherwise in keeping with the simple style of Ming furniture. Made from solid elm, the middle shelf has two shallow drawers with brass handles.
