Square Kang Table with Cabriole Legs
Shanxi, circa 1850
This elegant, square shaped table would have been used to serve food or drink, placed either on a heated kang platform in a Chinese home in Shanxi province or possible used on a large daybed. The mini cabriole legs give the table a highly distinctive look and are beautifully carved at the feet in a floral pattern. The table is in elm wood, with the original dark finish largely worn away especially on the table top to leave a lovely patina formed over the years. Perfect today as a low level coffee table.
