Beijing Elm Money Trunk
Beijing, circa 1840
The old lacquer on this lovely chest has been stripped back to reveal the beautiful, pale elm wood underneath, with is lovely grain. The chest would have been used for holding money and valuables, the two top lidded sections being secured using the heavy brass hardware. The small central doors open out to the main space inside and there is a removable post between them. The hardware is original.
