Antique Chinese Carved Door Lintel
Hebei, circa 1900
This decorative wooden carving is made from beech wood and has been stripped to its natural hue. Originally produced in Hebei province, located near Beiing, at the start of the 1900s, it was designed to embellish a doorway in the home of a wealthy family. It showcases several characters in carved relief to the sides of an extended arch, as well as floral style carvings in the middle. The apron beneath is carved through in a scrolling pattern that adds an eye catching detail. The frame's base has two facing, robed figures, crafted with distinct detail and character accumulated over the years. Mounted over a sideboard, console or bed, this unique panel would bring an elegant, unique touch to any wall.
