Wide Plank Top Console Table
Henan, circa 1900
This long, rustic table is made from chunky elm wood, with a thick, heavy plank top that has weathered over time. The irregular shaped legs and stretchers add to a unique, vernacular aesthetic and the wood has a lovely, tactile feel. The table dates from the beginning of the last century and is typical of much of the rudimentary furniture of Henan province. Today it would make an unusual, characterful console table in a hallway, but would add a rustic, natural charm to any space.
