'Hundred Eye' Chest, Light Elm
Our light elm model really enhances the grain of the wood. With larger drawers than original chests for a more practical modern day use, each of the sixteen drawers being ideal to hold CDs and DVDs, up to approximately 400 CDs. Medicine chests with multiple drawers for holding herbs and other remedies, were used throughout China by apothecaries and pharmacists, with the larger ones were being referred to as hundred eye chests (or 'bei yau chu' in Chinese). As one Chinese scholar wrote, a drawer is a place that copes with idleness and hides incompetence and we think this piece offers a beautiful way to get organised. Made from solid elm with dovetailed drawers and brass ring pull handles the chest could also be used to store small items of clothing.
