Wooden Travelling Trunk, Antique Chinese
Hebei, circa 1860
This rustic looking trunk was once used as a travel chest to store clothes and personal possessions. The two holes in the base, strengthened with iron hardware, run through the trunk and allowed poles to be placed through for easier carrying. Unusually, the edges of the trunk are supported with bamboo strips for protection, and the old iron braces that strengthen the joins are also still present. Great today as a side table with handy storage space inside.
