Shanxi Temple Cabinet Antique Chinese
Shanxi, circa 1820
Made for use as an altar cabinet - possibly for a Chinese temple, this stunning cabinet is in its old finish and in a highly original condition, despite being around 200 years old. The only more recent alteration is the middle drawer above the doors, which has been fitted using what was once a fixed panel as the drawer front. The hardware on the doors is old and the various carvings have all survived the years intact. The carved symbol on the middle drawer is of a coin, designed to represent prosperity. The circular symbols on each panel to the side of the doors represents heaven, symbolising good fortune.
