Set of Four Large Carved Lattice Panels
Jiangsu, circa 1880
These large, carved panels would once have formed part of an internal dividing wall in a Chinese home and were produced towards the end of the Qing Dynasty. They come from Jiangsu province on China's east coast and are made with thick frames in fir wood and central carved sections in camphor. The intricate, open lattice sections are made up of individual lengths of wood secured with mortise and tenon joints, fixed in between with beautiful carvings of flora and fauna, including peonies, birds and mythical creatures. It is quite rare today to find a set of panels like this that are still together and in excellent condition and they would make a wonderful architectural feature on a wall or used as a room divider.
Sold as a set, the price shown is for the set of four panels.
