Its vivid red finish has been refreshed with a new varnish and is worn in places to reveal darker tones and warm wood beneath, giving the surface a lovely depth of colour. A central painted design of flowers and curling foliage in blue, purple and gold is framed by dark carved borders, with further floral carvings across the upper edge and a shaped apron below.

Originally, the cabinet was accessed through a removable board in the top, with fixed panels forming the front. These old panels have been carefully adapted into two doors, fitted with simple metal drop handles, making the interior much easier to use while preserving the decorative frontage. The floral painting spans both doors, retaining the balanced appearance of the earlier design.

A distinctive piece for a living room, hallway or dining room, the cabinet offers useful storage alongside a broad surface for lamps and favourite ceramics. Its rich colours and combination of painted and carved decoration would make a beautiful focal point against a plain wall.
