Red Lacquer Four Door Sideboard
Gansu, circa 1900
The thick, extended top surface, chunky frames and shaped front feet of this sideboard are typical of Gansu furniture. The deep red lacquer is original, now worn in parts to reveal the pine wood underneath. When it was first made the sideboard would have inlcuded only the two central doors. The outer doors have been added recently from the once fixed panels. Removable shelves have also been fitted to the interior.
