Qinghai Painted Pine Sideboard
Qinghai, circa 1880
The beautifully painted, large sideboard is a wonderful example of the large grain storage chests that were used in the western Chinese provinces of Qingha and Gansu. This one is from Qinghai, still with the old paintings for flower vases in red, and blue on a cream background. The doors have been added using what were fixed panels, as originally the unit would have been accessed through removable panels in the top. The removable shelves have also been fitted recently, creating a more practical storage unit with plenty of space inside.
