Pale Blue Gansu Cabinet
Gansu, circa 1920
This pretty little cabinet has been produced by cutting down a larger grain storage chest into two and creating the door from what was once a fixed panel. The paintings of flowers on the the door are old, but the surrounding pale blue lacquer finish, with its beautiful crackled effect, is new. The cabinet's bottom apron is decorated with simple carvings. The creams, pinks and greens. on the door contrast perfectly with the soft, pastel blues and, with a single removable shelf, this would be ideal for storage in living room or perhaps as a large bedside unit.
