Pair of Walnut Consoles, Chinese Tables
Gansu, circa 1860
Once used as a pair of serving tables, these would make a lovely set of consoles today. They are made from walnut, a material commonly used for furniture in the western part of Gansu where the tables were produced as it was readily available. The wood has a wonderful, rich tone and smooth grain that can be seen to great effect on the table tops. The style here is fairly plain, but with carved aprons, waisted table tops and 'S' shaped stretchers, as well as the shaped feet that are distinctive of Gansu furniture. Sold as a pair, the price shown is for the two tables.
