Pair of Oriental Meditation Stools
Suzhou, circa 1900
This lovely pair of large stools are from the city of Suzhou in Jiangsu province - one of the most important cities for furniture making during the late Ming dynasty. Although produced in a later period, the stools are in a style typical of Ming furniture, with slightly splayed round legs that slot directly into the seat frames and rounded aprons. Each stool has a rattan seat over a wooden board, providing a firm, hardwearing surface. Perfect for occasional seating, they are also great as side tables. Sold as a pair, the price shown is for both stools.
