Painted Storage Cabinet
Gansu, circa 1920
Originally produced to store grain, this delightful cabinet still has its old feature of two removable panels in the top - once the only way to access the space inside . The doors have been added recently by converting the original fixed panels. They are decorated with now faded paintings against a cream background, each set within dark frames that matches the cabinet's top and sides. A deep bottom apron below each door is also finished in cream, adding a wonderful contrast and warmth to the overall look of the cabinet. There is a single removable shelf inside each section.
