Mongolian Painted Two Door Cabinet
Mongolia, circa 1920
This old painted cabinet dates from around the 1920s and was produced in Mongolia. Simple, two door cabinets like this were designed to go on top of a much larger armoire, providing additional storage space for clothing or bedding. This one is lacquered and painted in the colours that are typical of Mongolian furniture - reds, greens and creams. The central door panels still have their original paintings showing flower vases and other artefacts and the old brass hardware on the doors is also intact. Mongolian furniture is becoming increasingly difficult to find and, although not very old, this little cabinet is a lovely example of the regional style.
