Low Tianjin Sideboard
Tianjin, circa 1860
The square cornered style, thick frames and multiple doors and drawers on this unusual low sideboard are highly characteristic of cabinets produced in and around Tianjin - the large coastal city to the east of Beijing. The cabinet is made from elm, with its original black lacquer finish, now worn around the apron and edges. The heavy brass hardware in various shapes is original and also typical of Tianjin pieces, with the centre post between the main doors being removable. With plenty of storage compartments for DVDs, media units and other items, it is a perfect size to use as a highly distinctive TV stand.
