Large Three Door Crackled Blue Sideboard
Gansu, circa 1920
Once used as a large storage chest for holding grain, this imposing piece has been converted into a sideboard, with the front three panels reset into doors to give easier access to the inside. Simple in style, with chunky frames and recessed panels, the original pine wood has been refinished in wonderful pale greenish blue lacquer, with a gorgeous crackled effect that gives real texture and character. At over two metres wide and with three removable shelves inside, the sideboard would make a real statement piece in a reception room or dining room, with plenty of storage space inside.
