Grey Lacquer Storage Sideboard
Hebei, circa 1920
With two central doors and a total of eight drawers, this low sideboard in pine would be great today as a TV stand, with plenty of storage space for DVDs and media players. It comes from Hebei province to the south of Beijing, and has been refinished in a distressed, grey lacquer. The brass handles are recent additions - replacements for the old handles that were either lost or possibly removed for steel during China's 'great leap forward'.
