Gansu Four Door Carved Sideboard
Gansu, circa 1900
This stunning four door cabinet has been beautifully restored, with the old paintings now faded but still visible and with the original hardware still in place on the central doors. The spandrels are beautifully carved with a floral design, tapering down to the feet. The paintings would once have been in a vibrant gold as there still appear to be some traces of the old colour. The gold has worn away, leaving only the black base underneath to show the outline of figures, trees and landscapes that decorate the doors and lower panel. The outer doors are a recent addition, produced from the original fixed panels with new handles added. There is a single removable shelf inside.
