Elm Shanxi Side Table
Shanxi, circa 1900
Although it was produced a little later, this lovely table has typical design features of China's Ming dynasty. Narrow, elegant legs taper down to horse hoof feet, whilst 'S' shaped stretchers reach around all four sides. Beautifully proportioned, the table would once have been finished in a black lacquer, and there are still a few traces of this left. For the most part though it has now worn down to reveal the lovely grain and pattern of the elm wood that it is made from. A lovely console that is an easy size to fit into a reception room or hallway.
