Elm Shanxi Chinese End Cabinet
Shanxi, circa 1850
This beautiful side cabinet is in elm and the wood has a lovely character and patina that has developed over the decades. It is from Shanxi province in central China and, as well as the old, worn finish, still has its original iron hardware on the doors. The doors are set centrally with a narrow fixed panel at each side. These and the drawers above and below the doors are all set within rounded frames - quite distinctive of Shanxi cabinets. Beautifully made around the mid 19th century and with plenty of character, the cabinet would work well for storage in any room.
