Elm Armoire, Black Lacquer
Shanxi, circa 1810
The relatively narrow proportions and slightly tapered frames give this beautiful cabinet a sleek, elegant look that would suit any space. It still has its original black lacquer finish, worn and crackled in places but in good condition considering its age. The cabinet is in a 'round-cornered' style, the long doors fitting directly into the top and bottom frames on wooden dowels and the side frames topped with an extended lid. The only decorative element is the large, circular brass hardware on the doors (a replacement for the original). Cabinets like this with full length doors and the old finish are particularly prized and this one is a lovely example. With removable shelves and two drawers inside it would suit perfectly for stylish storage in a bedroom or living area.
