Double Sided Elm Sideboard
Shanxi, circa 1880
This large sideboard may once have been lacquered, but is now in its natural finish, with the wide patterned grain of the elm wood particularly striking on the top extended surface. The sideboard is divided with thick frames into two sections, with a set of doors and two drawers in each. The doors are fitted with classic round hardware and ring handles, replacements for the originals. In a very simple, pure style, the beautiful material and thick, chunky top surface and frames give the sideboard a lovely rustic character. At over two metres in length it would make a real impact as a sideboard in a dining room or for living room storage.
