Blue Lacquer Ladies Cabinet
Shandong, circa 1920
This lovely blue lacquer cabinet is in a style used in ladies' sleeping quarters in Chinese homes during the Qing dynasty as dressing tables. With cupboards and drawers over elongated legs that end in horsehoof feet, the design is normally referred to as a ladies' cabinet. This one dates from the early 20th century and has been restored and refinished in a gorgeous distressed blue lacquer, with new handles added to the four doors and two small drawers. It would still work beautifully in a bedroom, but equally well as a dining room sideboard or in a hallway.
