Black Lacquer Armoire with Carved Apron
Shanxi, circa 1860
This stunning tall cabinet is in its original black lacquer finish, now worn and aged to a softer dark grey. The style is very simple, in a square-cornered design with thick frames and flush sides. The main decorative element on the cabinet is the wonderful apron at the bottom, decorated in carved relief with an intricate geometric pattern. The circular brass hardware is old and the cabinet has the old fixed shelf on the inside, incorporating two small drawer, as well as a further shelf above.
