Antique Qinghai Tiger Trunk
Qinghai, circa 1800
This old trunk is from the border of Qinghai and Tibet and still has the original finish and paintings. The now faded painting on the front shows the face of a tiger, with its feet and claws either side. This was believed to help ward off evil spirits and unwanted intruders, keeping the household safe from harm. The trunk has a removable half board in the front rather than a hinged lid.
