Antique Chinese Black Lacquer Cabinet
Shanxi, circa 1800
This stunning old cabinet is in elm wood and dates from around 200 years ago. It was made in Shanxi province, central China and still has its old black lacquer finish, now worn to a dark grey, and original door hardware. The thick cabinet top extends over two drawers - securable with a clasp between them that is still in place. The doors are fitted on wooden stiles, sitting directly in the bottom frame and flanked on each side by three panels with rounded frames. The side spandrels at the front and back are stylised, tapering down to the feet. With a single shelf inside, this is a wonderful piece in a highly original condition that would add character to any setting.
