Its blue and pale cream crackled finish surrounds two colourful flower paintings, with traces of red and warm ochre adding depth to the surface. Thick moulded frames define the frontage, balancing the delicate painted details with the sideboard’s substantial construction.

The left-hand doors show pink and cream lotus flowers rising above broad green leaves, with fish swimming below. In Chinese culture, the lotus represents purity and integrity, admired for emerging clean from muddy water. Peonies decorate the right-hand doors, their full blooms traditionally associated with wealth, prosperity and honour. These auspicious motifs give the paintings meaning as well as decorative appeal.

The original fixed panels have been adapted into four doors, retaining the floral designs while making the interior easily accessible. Small metal drop handles complete the doors, and a shelf divides the generous cupboard space. Panelled sides, a broad lower rail and a central supporting foot complete the balanced design.

A lovely focal point for a dining room or living room, the sideboard combines useful storage with richly textured colour. Its muted blue tones and brighter floral details would sit beautifully in a traditional or more modern space, bring colour and interest to any interior.
