Darker markings show through across the surface, with warm timber exposed along the edges. The restrained colour highlights the table’s traditional form, with a broad, overhanging top and decorative carved spandrels tapering down beside the short legs.

Originally used as a kang table, it would have stood on the raised, heated platform found in northern Chinese homes, providing a convenient surface for tea and informal meals. Two drawers, each fitted with a simple metal drop handle, sit above a recessed front panel, while panelled sides and shaped lower rails complete the balanced design.

Today, its compact size and low proportions make it a lovely coffee table for a smaller living room. The drawers offer useful storage for remote controls and other small items, while the soft grey-green finish would sit beautifully alongside neutral fabrics and natural wood.
