This striking painted cabinet is a newly made reproduction, inspired by the bold, decorative furniture of Gansu and Inner Mongolia. Pieces from these northern regions were known for their bright, lively colours and expressive artwork and this modern interpretation retains that traditional character while offering the practicality and durability suited to today’s interiors.

The cabinet is finished in a distressed black lacquer, purposely worn back to give an aged appearance and to reveal texture and depth in the timber beneath. At the centre of the doors is a beautifully hand-painted panel in cream, framed in soft turquoise tones. The paintings feature a vivid bouquet of peonies, chrysanthemums and roses, flanked by a pair of golden long-tailed birds - most likely pheasants as a symbol for prosperity.

Built using reclaimed pine, the cabinet has a solid, tactile feel and natural variations in the wood grain that enhance its rustic charm. Two front doors open to a spacious interior with a single removable shelf, ideal for storing tableware, books or household essentials.
