Antique Square Table in Natural Finish
Shanxi, circa 1860
In the same style as many Chinese stools but with larger proportions, this square table may have been used originally as a meditation seat. It is made from elm and in its original finish, now largely worn to the pale wood beneath. It has many of the classic features of Chinese furniture, including a waisted top, stretchers with S shaped curves and legs that taper down slightly to horse hoof feet. The wood has a lovely patina formed over years of use and wear. Perfect today as a side table.
