Three Drawer Natural Elm Console
Henan, circa 1880
With its narrow proportions giving it a simple, elegant style, this old table is in elm, the finish stripped back to the lovely, natural colour of the wood. The thick top surface extends over three drawers, each with a simple ring handle. The table was produced in Henan province in central eastern China towards the end of the nineteenth century. The simple, pure style is typical of furniture from the region and the material itself, with its lovely wide grain and aged patina, is the real feature. Perfect as a stylish, rustic console table, with useful storage space inside the drawers.
