Carved Shaanxi Three Drawer Coffer
Shaanxi, circa 1840
The once bright red and black lacquer has muted over time on this wonderful old elm storage coffer. The drawers and spandrels are highly decorative with carvings of flowers and leaves. The apron depicts two fire breathing dragons. The coffer is from Shaanxi province and the heavy carving and iron studded drawer frames are typical of furniture from the region. A beautiful piece in original condition that would well in a reception room or as a dining sideboard.
