Elm Plank Top Console, Chinese Table
Henan, circa 1870
The old, weathered look of the thick elm wood used to produce this simple console table gives it bundles of rustic character. The table is from Henan in central China and dates from around 150 years ago. A subtle, distressed finish has been applied recently but the look is very natural, with the grain of the elm being particularly lovely. The top is made from a single plank, cracked and pitted over the years, that extends over tapered legs. These are fitted with double stretchers at the sides, and a rustic looking, curved stretcher at the front and back.
