Three Drawer Kang Table, Warm Elm
The Chinese did not use coffee tables in the sense that we know them but in colder parts of the country they would use low level tables placed on top of the heated 'kang' living area to serve refreshments or as a work surface. Many of these tables were very plain in style, but others included drawers to provide easy storage for everyday items. This particular warm elm table is larger than the original kang tables to make it more practical as a contemporary coffee table, but the simple frame and panel construction is very much in keeping with early Chinese designs. The three drawers are ideal for tidying away magazines or DVDs and open in both directions for easy access.
