Chinese Three Drawer Elm Table
Shanxi, circa 1890
Originally used as a desk or painting table, this would also work well in a modern home as a dressing table or deep console. It is fairly simple in style, with the horse hoof feet that are so distinctive of Chinese furniture and legs set in a square cornered, 'zhuo' design. Three drawers are each fitted with a brass ring handle. Once in a black finish that is still largely intact on the front and sides, the top of the table has worn to show the more natural elm wood, with its beautiful, wide patterned grain.
