Shanxi Elm Altar Table
Shanxi, circa 1900
Smaller and shallower than many Chinese altar tables, this beautiful table would fit easily into any interior as an unusual, stylish console. It has the raised 'flanges' at each end that denote its original use for holding religious offerings, along with beautifully carved panels in a floral pattern between each set of legs. Classic 'cloud head' spandrels decorate both the front and rear. In its original dark brown lacquer, the table makes an elegant setting today for lamps and ornaments.
