 | CW04: Ming Wardrobe CW04W100 x D60 x H200cm We love this wardrobe for its simple Chinese style and solid construction, offering very impressive bedroom storage. Its simple design means that it still looks right up to date, while a large brass lock plate gives it that unmistakable Ming style. Although the Chinese did not hang their clothes vertically, this type of square cornered cabinet was common in the north of the country, and would have contained shelves and drawers. We've adapted the original interior to suit today's needs by including a wooden rail and three removable shelves, so it can be used either for hanging clothes or as a cupboard. Made of solid reclaimed elm and with two useful drawers at the bottom. Due to its size and weight, the wardrobe will normally be made in two sections (self assembled) for easier manoeuvrability unless otherwise requested. Part of our Classical Chinese furniture range, handcrafted from reclaimed elm wood and available in a choice of warm elm, light elm or black lacquer. Other finishes and sizes can be made to order. | CT02: Horseshoe Armchair CT02W56 x D44 x H100cm The Chinese horseshoe armchair, referred to in China as a 'Grand Tutor Chair' (taishi yi), was a real symbol of status in 16th and 17th century China. Used as the seats of magistrates and other high ranking officials, as well as for the most important house guests, the chair's design is one of the most recognisable in Chinese furniture. As would the originals, our horseshoe armchair includes a footrest and a carved backrest. The carving on the backrest is of a Chinese dragon inside either a circle or a 'ruyi' - a symbol of prosperity and protection from evil. This chair's classic curves and beautiful proportions mean it will look good anywhere. Part of our Classical Chinese furniture range, handcrafted from reclaimed elm wood and available in a choice of warm elm, light elm or black lacquer. Other finishes and sizes can be made to order. | CT08: Scroll Altar Table CT08W150 x D40 X H80cm This table may look contemporary but its distinctive oriental style is in fact hundreds of years old. The rolled scroll effect at the table's feet was common in Chinese furniture from the Qing dynasty (1644 - 1911), but this simple type of construction was developed even before the earlier Ming Dynasty. The Chinese used these tables not only to hold offerings to ancestors but also as general display tables. Our version is hand made from reclaimed elm and looks beautiful in a hall or reception room. Part of our Classical Chinese furniture range, handcrafted from reclaimed elm wood and available in a choice of warm elm, light elm or black lacquer. Other finishes and sizes can be made to order. | CT13: Three Drawer Kang Table CT13W140 x D70 X H43cm The Chinese would place low level furniture such as tables with drawers on the side of the kang platform in their homes to provide convenient storage and a useful work surface. This version is slightly higher and deeper than a normal kang table to act as a more contemporary coffee table or low sideboard, but still holds true to the simple, pure design ethos of the Chinese Ming period. The three drawers provide useful storage for magazines, CDs or DVDs and open in both directions for easier access. Part of our Classical Chinese furniture range, handcrafted from reclaimed elm wood and available in a choice of warm elm, light elm or black lacquer. Other finishes and sizes can be made to order. | CT14: Scholar's Desk CT14W120 x D48 X H85cm This beautiful Chinese table shows the horse hoof shaped feet that were typical of much Ming period furniture, while the curved aprons stretching across from each table leg were also a common feature at that time. Pieces like this were used as writing desks by Chinese scholars hundreds of years ago, yet the simple style of our version allows it to look perfectly at home in any modern setting. Use it as an elegant hall table, dressing table, or as a simple desk. Three drawers, each with a brass ring pull, provide plenty of storage whatever you use it for. Part of our Classical Chinese furniture range, handcrafted from reclaimed elm wood and available in a choice of warm elm, light elm or black lacquer. Other finishes and sizes can be made to order. | ATC-4645: Pair of Yoke-Back Chairs ATC-4645W53 x D40 x H108cm Beijing, circa 1880 This pair of chairs are of a very simple design that was first seen in China hundreds of years ago. The name Yoke-Back comes from the shape of the top headrest, and this type of chair is also often referred to as an Officials Hat Chair, since the headrest also resembles the hats worn by Ming Dynasty mandarins. These two are made from elm and their original colour has been maintained. Only limited restoration has been carried out, giving a quite natural, rustic finish. In stock for delivery within 3-4 weeks. Price shown is for both chairs. Price: 550.00 Now: £380.00 view item

 | ATC-70656: Square Table ATC-70656W90 x D90 x H82cm Beijing, circa 1850 Square tables like this had various uses in China. They could be placed in the middle of a room with stools or benches for the family to share a meal, used for mah-jong or other games, or used in a bedroom as a dressing table. In contrast to the west, where most dining tables were rectangular or oval, the Chinese would always prefer a square shape as this made communication at the dining table easier. This example is in elm and is a fairly simple design, with humpback or giants brace stretchers and rounded legs. Still great today for eating or for those evenings of mah-jong! | ATC-71711: Pear Wood Wine Table ATC-71711W95 x D56 x H85cm Gansu, circa 1880 This beautiful table would once have been used to serve wine and simple food. It would most likely have been placed against a wall in the home with a chair either side. The style, with its high waist, humpback stretchers and shaped feet, was common in central Gansu. Pear wood is abundant throughout China and, because of its fine, even texture, it was often used for carvings and panels on furniture. However it is more unusual for it to have been used entirely for a piece such as this. In stock for delivery within 3-4 weeks. Price: 625.00 Now: £495.00 view item

 | ATCT-70011: Two Drawer Desk ATCT-70011W151 x D45 x H80cm Shanxi, circa 1890 The shape and style of this piece, with its slightly splayed recessed legs, was a very common design for wine tables from all over China. This is more unusual in that it also includes two drawers, suggesting that it may have been used as a desk. The material is elm, in common with most Shanxi furniture, and today this would make a wonderful console table. In stock for delivery within 3-4 weeks. Price: 745.00 Now: £595.00 view item

 | ATC-94368: Carved Coffer Table ATC-94368W103 x D50 x H87cm Shaanxi, circa 1860 Furniture from Shaanxi province in central China is distinguishable by the heavy carved decoration and this piece is a good example. The large upper drawer and two lower drawers all include carved relief and heavy hardware, while the side spandrels are also beautifully carved. The coffer would originally have been finished in black lacquer with the drawer fronts picked out in red. The original lacquer is still present but has lightened and worn with use in some areas. | ATK-82413: Black Painted Trunk ATK-82413W138 x D43 x H49cm Qinghai, circa 1880 The paintings on this unusual trunk are original and, as well as the more common vases and flowers, show a gong on the far left side perhaps a family possession. Qinghai furniture was often in red or black lacquer and painted and this is a good example. Rather than a normal hinged lid, the trunk has three half boards on the top, which lift out to give access to the inside. The inside itself is divided into three sections, each approximately 43cm wide. Perfect placed at the end of a bed. In stock for delivery within 3-4 weeks. Price: 675.00 Now: £495.00 view item

 | ATKT-F91004: Herbalist's Chest ATKT-F91004W77 x D45 x H109cm Shanxi, circa 1940 Multi-drawer chests like this were used all over China by pharmacists to hold the herbs and other remedies used in Chinese medicine. This particular piece has a total of 30 small drawers, each divided into three sections so that it could have held up to 90 separate herbs.
