A simple low armchair in a classic Chinese style. This type of chair developed from the earlier 'yoke-back' or 'official's hat' chair, the main difference being that its arms and top rail do not protrude beyond the chair's stiles and posts. As would most of the chairs produced during the Ming period, our armchair has a rattan seat and a footrest for comfort. It features a curved backrest decorated with a lovely carved motif, and carved spandrels at the corners of the posts and top rail. These low armchairs look wonderful in a living room or study, or - as the Chinese would often have done - place a pair of them in the hall or other reception room.
Part of our Classical Chinese furniture range, handcrafted from reclaimed elm wood and available in a choice of warm elm, light elm or black lacquer. Other finishes and sizes can be made to order. Love this item? Add it to mydeco.
