The butterfly is a symbol in China both of long life and of joy and marital happiness. It was used to decorate all types of furniture, particularly the painted cabinets of Shanxi province. This beautiful screen is gilded and hand painted on both sides, matching perfectly our own Shanxi style cabinets.
