Combinations of shelves and cabinets like this are usually referred to by the Chinese as display cabinets. The standard form for was for there to be one open shelf above a larger cabinet, and this particular form was called a Wanli display cabinet. Our version has a smaller cabinet at the bottom and more shelf space with a solid back and sides, making it more useful in the modern home as a bookshelf or for displaying ornaments. The cabinet has one removable shelf inside.
