These lovely little boxes come from Qinghai province in western China and date from the early part of the 20th century. They were once used to store documents and each one is decorated with paintings as well as, in most cases, an inscription along the sides. Most boxes have a standard lid, but others have front opening doors and some have drawers. The finish and paintings are all original.
