Chinese Commemorative paintings, usually referred to as ancestor paintings, were used in China as an important part of ancestor worship. It was believed that part of the familys duty was to worship and honour their deceased ancestors, and rituals involving the offering of food before portraits of the deceased were an important part of this. The portraits were always very similar, usually near life size and painted from a frontal angle, with the subjects usually seated on elaborate chairs with the insignia of their rank and status visible. Original ancestor paintings are now rare and highly sought after. Our paintings are reproductions and smaller in size, but are extremely accurate versions of original paintings. They are supplied framed as shown. Please note that colours and designs vary from the example shown.
