Mongolia, circa 1900Trunks like this from Mongolia are now very difficult to come by, as Mongolian pieces become almost as scarce as original Tibetan furniture. What is even rarer in this case is that the trunk still has its original wooden stand - the paintings on the front matching those on the lower part of the trunk itself. Two scrolling dragons in green and white adorn the front of the trunk, contrasting with the now worn and muted red lacquer. Like most Mongolian furniture, the design and construction are quite rudimentary, the trunk having a removable half board lid rather than metal hinges. Made from pine wood, the trunk is in a completely original condition and is very much a unique piece.
