Shanghai, circa 1900This piece originated from Shanghai and was used as a travelling chest to store clothes. It is made from wood but covered in a cream leather, and still has the original decorative clasp on the front. The front of the trunk also still shows the owner's seal (known as a 'chop'). The inside of the trunk is lined with a decorative fabric in a floral design, and the label of the maker of the trunk is still intact, giving information about the company.
